Twilight cast bids farewell at final premiere

3:20 AM |

Thousands of screaming fans lined the black carpet late on Monday for the final "Twilight" film premiere as the cast of "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" bid farewell to the franchise and its loyal followers.

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and other cast members greeted fans known as "Twi-hards," many of whom had camped out for days in downtown Los Angeles to catch a glimpse of their favorite actors and see the film before it is released in theaters on Friday.

Breaking Dawn - Part 2 will see the love story of human Bella Swan (Stewart), vampire Edward Cullen (Pattinson) and werewolf Jacob Black (Lautner) come to a tantalizing end, when Bella and Edward are forced to protect their child from an ancient vampire coven.

Stewart, who was finally able to embrace her wild side by playing Bella as a vampire, hoped people would enjoy the ultimate transformation of her character in the film.

"Bella has worked pretty hard to get to the point where they can have it all, and it's fun to be there. She's always been human, but now that she's not, you're just in full blown vampire land and it feels funny in a great way," Stewart told Reuters.

More than 2,200 fans from all over the world came to camp out on a concrete plaza in downtown Los Angeles last week, where Twilight movie studio Summit laid out activities and marathon screenings of the previous movies.

All of the film's main actors spent time signing autographs and posing for photographs with the loyal fans who had camped out in chilly November weather over five days.

Pattinson, who plays vampire Edward Cullen, said he hoped the fans would like the franchise's swan song.

"I hope they feel it kind of respects them, because I think in a lot of ways that's what we were thinking when we were making it," the actor said.

Lautner, who plays werewolf Jacob, said he'd be sad to say goodbye to the films and his character and hoped fans would be happy with the conclusion of the final film.

"I'm feeling fantastic, sad, emotional, there's a lot of things going on inside of me right now but I'm just trying to soak up every moment because this means the world to me," Lautner said.

The three lead stars were joined by fellow cast members including Nikki Reed, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, Michael Sheen and Dakota Fanning, as well as director Bill Condon and author Stephenie Meyer, whose Twilight novels kicked off the franchise and phenomenon.

Meyer said she would miss watching the three lead cast members evolve as actors and characters in the films.

"It's really been great to watch them grow up, particularly Kristen because her character gets to evolve so much in this film, and to watch her be all powerful and really get to where the character was always meant to go, to be the fiercest of the fierce, was really rewarding for me," the author said.

Tracy Morgan Hospitalized

2:41 PM |
The 30 Rock star had to cancel a pair of comedy shows in Colorado after he was taken to the hospital to be treated for flu-like symptoms

We're starting to become concerned for Tracy Morgan's health, at least when he's traveling to high altitudes. For the second time in five months, the 43-year-old 30 Rock star has been unexpectedly hospitalized.

Morgan, who caused a stir when he collapsed at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah in January, was set to perform at Denver's Comedy Works South on Saturday -- but instead was rushed to the hospital for dehydration and flu-like symptoms, TMZ reports. The comedian was treated for several hours before being released, and his two comedy shows for the night were canceled.

On Sunday morning, Morgan was photographed being pushed around Denver International Airport in a wheelchair before taking a flight back to New York City..

"He is fine," Morgan's rep told GossipCop. "He had the flu before he left [for the trip]."

A Denver editor for the Huffington Post was in attendance at the Denver show before it was canceled, and says many audience members thought Morgan's illness was a joke at first.

"The emcee came out and told us that Tracy was feeling sick and wasn't going to come on," editor Matt Ferner says. "The crowd thought it was a joke at first. But it quickly sank in how serious this was when the manager of Comedy Works South came out to tell us that Tracy was hoping to feel well enough to perform for the 10 p.m. show, but that there was no way they were going to let him because he was in such bad shape."

Full refunds are being given out to those who purchased tickets.

This isn't the first this sort of thing has happened to Morgan. While at an awards party at January's Sundance Film Festival, the actor gave off the appearance of being inebriated, running around yelling and then finally falling to the floor. He was rushed to the hospital soon after, and was said to have been sick from a combination of altitude and exhaustion. No drugs or alcohol were found in his system.

Morgan also was hospitalized in late 2010 when he underwent a kidney transplant. The Saturday Night Live alum suffers from diabetes.

Heather Locklear admitted to hospital

5:04 AM |
Heather Locklear

Heather Locklear has been hospitalised after reportedly mixing prescription medication with alcohol.

The 50-year-old actress - who has previously been sent to hospital for psychological issues - was examined by paramedics after her sister called 911 yesterday afternoon (12.01.12) and it was decided she needed to be taken to Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center from her home in Westlake Village.

A spokesperson for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department said: "Emergency response personnel responded to a medical emergency call at Ms. Locklear's residence.

"Once they arrived, it was determined that Ms. Locklear needed to be transported to the hospital for further medical attention."

However, her parents Bill and Diane have claimed she is now stable and doing "just fine".

They said in a statement to People.com: "She is in no danger and she's going to be just fine."

Doctors are hoping she will be able to leave hospital soon.

In November, Heather called off her engagement to 'Melrose Place' co-star Jack Wagner after just three months.

The blonde beauty has had a turbulent few years.

In 2011, she was arrested, and later cleared, for a hit-and-run accident after hitting a No Parking sign in Ventura County, California.

In 2008 she entered rehab seeking treatment for anxiety and depression.

Kelly Osbourne can't wait to babysit her forthcoming niece or nephew.

The 27-year-old star's brother Jack is currently expecting his first baby with fiancee Lisa Stelly, and she is delighted at the prospect of looking after them when they come along.

She said: "Oh, I have already told him, 'I know it's your baby but it's really my baby so whenever you want a night off, let me know!' "

Kelly is particularly proud of her brother - who has battled addictions in the past - and believes he has now grown from a boy into a man.

She added: "He is going to be an amazing dad. This is like his dream come true! I watched him turn into a man overnight and it was his beautiful. I'm like his emotional sister sobbing behind him wherever he goes! I'm like, 'I'm so proud of you!' "

She told America's OK! magazine "Oh my God, to have another baby in our home, it's a blessing! He'll be the best dad. He has the best heart."

Jack has previously revealed the baby was not planned but he is excited about having a child.

He said: "I'm excited. It's a very good thing. It wasn't planned, if that tells you anything...

Beyonce gives birth to baby girl - Ivy Blue Carter

4:17 AM |
Beyonce and Jay-Z are reported to have rented an entire hospital floor Picture

Singer Beyonce Knowles has reportedly given birth to a baby girl at a hospital in New York City.

Mother and baby were both "doing fine," her hometown newspaper, the Houston Chronicle, reported. The news was later confirmed by entertainment news website E! Online, which said the birth was by C-section.

The 30-year-old Destiny's Child and Single Ladies star is married to hip-hop icon Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter.

Jay-Z was telling friends he and Beyonce named their daughter Blue Ivy Carter, E! Online reported. Other media outlets named the baby as Ivy Blue Carter, but representatives for the couple have yet to officially confirm the news.

Pop star Rihanna and hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons were among the couple's friends to tweet their congratulations.

Simmons tweeted: "Congrats to my good friends Beyonce and Jay-Z."

"Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih," pop star Rihanna tweeted later.

The couple rented out the entire fourth floor of Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan for the birth - paying $1.3 million, the New York Daily News reported.

The medical centre prepared a luxurious suite for her and had just finished a major renovation of a dozen rooms and a nursing station for the couple's arrival, sources said.

The newspaper said a hospital staffer had revealed Beyonce had checked in Friday night under the name "Ingrid Jackson."

Hospital management reportedly put tape over security cameras and forced staff to hand in their cell phones in an effort to stop unauthorised photographs or footage of mother and baby being leaked.

Security guards were also reported to have been sighted outside the building.

Beyonce revealed her pregnancy at August's 2011 MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles, arriving in a dress that showed off her baby bump.

Former bandmate Kelly Rowland appeared to let slip the baby's sex in a November interview, saying, "I have no idea what I'm going to buy Beyonce at the baby shower because Jay is going to buy that little girl every single thing possible. She won't be spoiled but she will be very well looked-after."

Beyonce's representatives did not return requests for comments. A hospital spokeswoman also declined to comment.

Last month Twitter exploded with rumours Beyonce had given birth to a baby girl and had named her Tiana-May Carter.

How the beach-front mansion looked in March 2011 after Tiger Woods' ex-wife Elin Nordegren payed $11.7m for the house
Nordegren has just demolished the $11.7 million pad - so she can build a better home on the same plot, TMZ  reports.

Nordegren bought the North Palm Beach home in March, eight months after she finalised her divorce from her cheating husband and received a whopping $97.5 million settlement.

It was thought that the Swedish former model would move into the sprawling six-bedroom, eight-bathroom property with her two children by Woods, but instead she knocked the whole place down.

She has hired a top architect to help build her a new dream home, and every worker involved in the project is required to sign a confidentiality agreement, according to TMZ.

It was not known when the 32 year old's new pad will be completed, and in the meantime, she is living in a nearby mansion inside the private community.

Channel 7's shiny disco ball has reportedly lured Kerri-Anne Kennerley away from her long-term home at Nine - with the former Mornings host

4:01 AM |
Kerri-Anne Kennerley
CHANNEL 7's shiny disco ball has reportedly lured Kerri-Anne Kennerley away from her long-term home at Nine - with the former Mornings host said to have signed on as a contestant on Dancing With The Stars.

The classy veteran has left the network which mishandled the axing of her daytime chat show and the hiring of former Dancing co-host Sonia Kruger to take her place, The Daily Telegraph reported.

But in a match made in bedazzled TV heaven, the sequin-loving 58-year-old is expected to take her next step on to the dancefloor in the popular, sometimes career-reviving, reality series.

Kennerley maintained a dignified front when it was revealed Nine boss Jeff Browne had ordered an overhaul for her show in October - then secretly hired younger rival Kruger to host it.

The former Seven star will team with singer David Campbell to host a new mornings format next month.

While Kennerley was gracious in public about the changes, privately she was less impressed with her treatment after 44 years with Nine.

Channel 7 declined to comment directly on the signing, with a spokesman adding: "(We're) still a way away from cast announcements for next series."

Kennerley did not return calls, but Nine's senior spokesman David Hurley confirmed she had left the network in high regard.

"There is not one person at Nine that doesn't like KAK. We genuinely wish her well," he said yesterday.

Of course, Kennerley famously has form in the dancing department, teaching former Treasurer Peter Costello the macarena, then opposition leader Kevin Rudd to rumba and one-time Democrats leader Cheryl Kernot to cha cha.

Liz Taylor couture soars to $2.6 million at auction

7:10 AM |
One of actress Elizabeth Taylor's Dior evening gowns sold for $362,500, boosting the total for the auction of her haute couture to $2.6 million at Christie's.

The silver encrusted brocade gown from 1968, with matching bag, had been estimated at about $5,000, but a protracted bidding war among several determined would-be buyers drove the price to about 70 times that, including commission.

The Wednesday sale, the third in a weeks' worth of auctions of Taylor's storied jewels, clothes, memorabilia and other items, was not marked by the freewheeling frenzy that prevailed on Tuesday, when her finest jewelry took in $116 million.

But the $2.6 million was still about 10 times the pre-sale estimate, owing to the Taylor cachet and also driven by competitive online bidding from around the globe.

Christie's said the sale set a record for a couture auction, although the evening's top lot was actually an Andy Warhol lithograph of Taylor which fetched $662,500.

"The couture was an extremely successful auction," said Andrea Fiuczynski, president of Christie's Los Angeles, who served as auctioneer.

The results, she said, were a testament to Taylor's iconic status, which she said is unmatched today.

"There isn't any celebrity now who does everything she did," Fiuczynski told Reuters, speaking to Taylor's work as an actress, activist, humanitarian, savvy businesswoman and style icon.

Taylor died of congestive heart failure in March at age 79.

Two other offerings soared past $100,000 - a Chanel ball gown and cape with shoes and matching bag, which fetched $134,500; and a Versace beaded bolero jacket emblazoned with images of Taylor in her film roles, which sold for $128,500.

A few pieces of jewelry included in the sale also commanded strong prices, notably a fish charm necklace estimated at $500 which sold for $30,000 and a pair of rock crystal and gold Gucci ear pendants, which went for $74,500 against an estimate of $1,500.

The Taylor auctions continue on Thursday with a memorabilia and fine arts sale. Online auctions of some 1,000 lower-priced items from Taylor's estate are running concurrently.

"The Help" tops list of SAG film nominees

6:52 AM |
Actresses Regina King (L) and Judy Greer announce Viola Davis as outstanding performance
The actors of civil rights drama "The Help" topped Screen Actors Guild Award nominations on Wednesday with four nods including best film cast, leading a list of nominees that saw many surprises in Hollywood's current awards season.

"The Help" was closely followed by silent-era drama "The Artist" with three nominations for its actors, including best cast in a film.

Joining them in that key category were the performers in critically acclaimed drama "The Descendants" and unexpected picks in director Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris" and the raunchy comedy "Bridesmaids."
The Screen Actors Guild, or SAG, awards are among the most-watched honors during Hollywood's film awards season, leading up to the Oscars in February, because actors make up one of the largest voting groups for Academy Awards.

As a result, SAG nominees typically figure prominently on many ballots by members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences which gives out the Oscars.

The SAG Awards will be given out in Los Angeles on January 29, and televised on cable TV networks TNT and TBS.

SAG surprises included the ensemble nod for "Bridesmaids" because dramas typically are favored over comedies during awards season. The joke-filled movie about women in a wedding party also earned Melissa McCarthy a best supporting actress nod.

While movies such as "The Artist," "The Help" and "The Descendants" have made many critics' and industry groups' lists of top movies, "Midnight in Paris" will get a big boost in this year's Academy Award race by virtue of its SAG nomination.

Next on Oscar watchers' list is Thursday's Golden Globe nods.

ACTORS AND ACTRESSES
Among acting races, Leonardo DiCaprio earned a surprise SAG nod for best actor as FBI boss J. Edgar Hoover in "J. Edgar" and Brad Pitt's role as a math-minded baseball man in "Moneyball" put him in the race, too.

They are joined by another unexpected choice, Mexican-born actor Demain Bichir in "A Better Life." Rounding out the category will be widely touted George Clooney playing a struggling father in "The Descendants" and French actor Jean Dujardin as a silent-era film star in "The Artist"
Left out of the SAG actor race was Michael Fassbender, who has earned acclaim portraying a sex addict in "Shame."

Among actresses, many had come into SAG nominations as highly acclaimed including perennial favorite Meryl Streep as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady" and Glenn Close in the role of a woman masquerading as a male butler in "Albert Nobbs."

Viola Davis portraying a maid in "The Help" and Michelle Williams as screen siren Marilyn Monroe in "My Week with Marilyn" also had been expected to pick up SAG nods. Rounding out nominees in that category is Tilda Swinton for the dark, independent drama "We Need to Talk About Kevin."

Joining McCarthy in the supporting actress category were two "Help" actresses, newcomers Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer. Also vying for that award will be France's Berenice Bejo for "The Artist" and Janet McTeer in "Albert Nobbs."

Christopher Plummer, who is racking up trophies for playing an elderly gay man in the comedy "Beginners," made the supporting actor group, as did Kenneth Branagh in "My Week with Marilyn."
But that category came with surprises, too, in the name of Nick Nolte in the little-seen mixed martial arts drama "Warrior," Jonah Hill for "Moneyball" and Armie Hammer with "J. Edgar."

While movie honors take top billing at the SAG Awards, the group that represents actors in the film and television industries also votes on performances for TV shows.

In the TV arena, many of the nominees include favorites from past seasons. The best ensemble cast in a drama nominees were the performers in "Boardwalk Empire," "Breaking Bad," "Dexter," "The Good Wife" and one newcomer, "Game of Thrones."

Nominees for acting in a TV comedy were "30 Rock," "The Big Bang Theory," "Glee," "Modern Family," and "The Office."

Lady Gaga crushes rivals in 2011 music earnings

6:43 AM |
Lady Gaga towered over other female musicians in 2011, heading a list of top earning women with an estimated $90 million in income, according to a Forbes.com survey released on Wednesday.

The "Born This Way" singer and performance artist made more than double her nearest rival -- country/pop artist Taylor Swift -- thanks to multiple endorsement deals and an estimated $1.3 million nightly gross ticket sales from her concert tour.

Swift earned about $45 million, thanks to her hit album "Speak Now", perfume line, and other deals, just ahead of "Teenage Dream" singer Katy Perry with $44 million.

Forbes.com drew up its list from data on pre-tax income compiled through record sales, touring data and interviews with music lawyers, managers and concert promoters.

Beyonce's 2011 income dipped to an estimated $35 million, mostly because of her relatively small amount of touring this year, but her new album "4", fashion line, and two fragrances helped to put her in 4th place.

Rihanna rounded out the top 5, earning an estimated $29 million from sales of her album "Loud", and endorsements from cosmetics company CoverGirl.

The full list can be seen on the Forbes.com site at tinyurl.com/d36m7gd.

The Stone Roses  have signed two record deals for new material, it has been announced.

The band, who reformed in October, finalised the UK and US contracts earlier this week.

Columbia have secured the US rights for The Stone Roses' new tracks, while Universal Records are behind their UK and global deal, which could earn them millions, The Sun reports.

They will also play Benicassim in Spain, as well as the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan and Norway's Øya festival.

I'LL BE BACK: 'Vile Kyle' Sandilands to return in 2012 after journo threat

4:30 AM |
He's back: Kyle Sandilands, spared the axe, yet again. Picture: Getty Images

DISGRACED shock jock Kyle Sandilands has kept his job at the helm of Australia's most popular breakfast radio show.

Southern Cross Austereo confirmed this afternoon he would return to the Kyle and Jackie O Show in 2012, yet again sparing the notorious repeat offender.

In a case of too little, too late, Sandilands issued an apology to news.com.au journalist Alison Stephenson for publicly abusing and threatening her on air.

Austereo said it did not condone his behaviour that was "deemed offensive".

Sandilands branded her a "fat slag" and promised to "hunt her down". The incident met with widespread public outrage and cost the radio station millions as sponsors and advertisers fled by the dozen.

Southern Cross Austereo CEO Rhys Holleran said in a statement Sandilands would continue in his job.

"(We) appreciate his further apology and addressing of the situation," he said.

Sandilands' "apology" came by way of a prepared press statement, more than fortnight after his disgraceful comments in the public domain.

Read the Sandilands apology in full below

"I have been in radio for more than ten years, my show is based on controversy, I give as good as I get and I have never been shy in expressing my opinion," he said.

"In the heat of the moment I reacted badly to criticism of my television program. I took my remarks too far and for that - and the offence caused to Alison Stephenson and those exposed to my comments - I sincerely apologise."

It follows his first attempt at an apology, when he said on air: "I went over the top because I thought it was a personal attack on me".

Big names such as Coles, Vodafone and Ford said earlier this week they would refuse to advertise with Southern Cross Austereo for as long as Sandilands remained in a job.

Kyle Sandilands' apology letter, released on December 9.

Countdown to Derryn Hinch's return to public life

4:24 AM |
Derryn Hinch and wife Chanel. Picture: Herald Sun

AFTER almost five months of court imposed silence, Derryn Hinch is preparing to make himself heard again.

The countdown is on until Hinch returns to the 3AW airwaves on December 21, after completing the home detention sentence imposed in July a matter of days after he underwent a life-saving liver transplant, the Herald Sun reported.

The broadcaster's world has been confined to his apartment on St Kilda Rd, with court sanctioned trips to the Austin Hospital and a legally approved hour of walking in his courtyard, of his apartment block, the only variations.

A friend of the Human Headline said he was making a strong recovery from his transplant and was looking forward to celebrating his release, and his second chance at life, with his wife Chanel.

Because Chanel lives in a different apartment to Hinch she has only been able to visit her husband during his detention.

Christmas will be emotional for the couple. Hinch was told in March he would not live to see Christmas if he did not urgently receive a donor liver.

The couple are believed to be planning to spend New Year's Eve at Crown's annual gala dinner.

Last year at the event Chanel asked her ailing husband what his resolution was for 2011.

He told her all he wanted was to be alive and sitting with her at Crown on New Year's Eve celebrating the arrival of 2012.

Hinch, according the friend, has kept busy during the past months, working on a book about his health crisis, subsequent transplant and then detention with the working title A Tale of Life, Death, Hope and House Arrest.

He has also brushed up his cooking skills, walks 2km daily on a treadmill, and has become a green thumb thanks to a balcony herb garden that he tends daily.

The thing he has missed most during his sentence, said the friend, has been his Saturday night date with Chanel, where they select a different top restaurant to try each week.

Yesterday Hinch ventured briefly to the Austin Hospital for a check-up following minor surgery last week.

He looked far healthier than when he was last sighted in public in July, before he started his sentence.

Kirsten Dunst granted restraining order against French stalker

4:10 AM |
A LOS Angeles judge granted Hollywood actress Kirsten Dunst a temporary restraining order against a Frenchman accused of stalking her.

Jean Christophe Prudhon, 51, was ordered to stay at least 90 metres away from the "Spider-Man" star, her home and her place of work. He was also instructed to stop trying to get in touch with her, entertainment website TheWrap reported citing details from court documents.

Prudhon had shown up at the Toluca Lake, California home of Kirsten Dunst's mother, Inez, last Saturday, asking to see the actress, according to a declaration filed by the elder Dunst.

The Frenchman sent "dozens of letters at my home, describing his obsession with my daughter," Inez Dunst said in the declaration, adding that the letters were "frightening and harassing," and that Prudhon was "clearly mentally ill."

In one of the letters submitted to the court with the petition, Prudhon wrote that he sold his home in France to finance his trip to the US to meet the actress.

A hearing is scheduled for December 21 to determine whether Kirsten Dunst should be granted a three-year restraining order against Prudhon.

Salma Hayek prayed to Jesus for bigger breasts when she was a child.

Mexican actress Salma Hayek arrives for the closing ceremony at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival

THE 45-year-old actress - who now possesses a curvaceous figure - admitted she was "really scared" when she didn't develop as quickly as her classmates and so appealed to Christ in a bid to boost her bust.

She explained: "I was the youngest in class and all these girls were starting to get breasts and I wasn’t getting anything - I was really scared.  I was getting teased a lot because everyone was older and I was the skinny tomboy."

“I went to a church that had a saint that was supposed to do a lot of miracles. I put my hands in the holy water and went, ‘Please Jesus, give me some boobs’.”

Meanwhile, the Mexican star also explained she barely spoke English when she first arrived in the US to pursue her dreams of being an actress, and got confused when she read her first review, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Salma added in an interview on UK TV show ‘The Graham Norton Show’: “I was upset by one review because it said, ‘Salma Hayek, bombshell’. I thought they meant the movie bombed because it was so bad.”

Giuliana Rancic To Get Double Mastectomy; Says 'It Was Not An Easy Decision'

12:09 PM |
TV presenter Giuliana Rancic is preparing to undergo a double mastectomy in her breast cancer battle.

Surgeons performed a two-hour double lumpectomy and removed lymph nodes from the reality star in October, and she was back at work as an anchor on entertainment program E! News within days.

Rancic has now revealed she will have both breasts removed next week, followed by an immediate reconstruction procedure.

She tells E! News, "First, I would like to take the stigma away. 'Mastectomy' the word seemed so scary to me at first. After doing research and seeing the advancements, the surgery has come a long way from 20 years ago. The results can be incredible.

"Not only can it save your life, but you can come out feeling healthier and with a positive self-image. Second, I want to encourage everyone to be proactive with their health and get checked out.

"When I went public with my breast cancer diagnosis six weeks ago, the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers and support really helped me heal faster. I want to make sure to thank everyone and give them an update for being so kind and loving and supportive.

"It was not an easy decision but it was the best decision for me. I hope for a full recovery by New Year's Eve. We're planning to be in Times Square!"

However, despite her positivity about the procedure, Rancic admits she is worried, adding: "Am I scared? Yes. Scared of the unknown. Scared of the pain. But I'm not scared of what I'll be like. I'll have scars, but I like scars. Scars are beautiful because they tell a story. I'll be able to say that I survived something major and it's made me stronger. I will be a better woman for it."

Season 3 of NBC's The Sing-Off drew to a close Monday night - and after the confetti, I talked with host Nick Lachey, judges Ben Folds and Shawn Stockman, and the top two acts! Here's what happened...

The Sing-Off
Congratulations to Pentatonix for being named season 3 champions! The Arlington, TX quintet (and favorite of Sonos) beat out the Dartmouth Aires and Urban Method to claim the title.

But there was a lot going on before the results...

The top three acts volunteered their time with charities close to their hearts. Pentatonix visited The Trevor Project, Urban Method helped out the Sickle Cell Foundation, and the Aires dropped in on Saving Strokes. In this age of egocentricity, it was so nice to see the artists giving back.

They also got the chance to collaborate with a member of the Sing-Off family. Pentatonix teamed up with Lachey to perform the 98 Degrees tune "Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)," a rendition that Nick quipped "took me back ten years. We finally got a 98 degrees song in there, even if I had to do it myself. I was holding out for that."

He was serious about his love for the show he hosts. "Every season I've been part of this show has been special," he said. "Tonight, with so many talented groups and feeling all the talent around, I think this has to be my favorite season."

Sara Bareilles joined Urban Method for a performance of her new single "Gonna Get Over You." But the highlight of the evening was easily Folds partnering with the Aires for a take on his song "Not The Same" which was not just a collaboration - but a whole studio sing-along that saw the piano man climb onto the Sing-Off judges' desk!

Folds also had the most thoughtful words to say about The Sing-Off finale. "The show is based on a kind of music that is not competitive. By nature, it's harmonious. But this is 2011, and people like to go into the coliseum and battle it out to the end, and I'm so glad that's over," he said with a wide smile.

"It's just about watching all these people - they're not divas, they don't have big egos. The groups that were kicked off, they were crying over the groups that got kicked off tonight. It's humanity and harmony and all that stuff. The competition, if that gives us a place on the air and a means for people to hear this great music, I'll play along with it. But I don't care about the coliseum."

His positive sentiments were echoed by fellow judge Stockman. "It's really, really hard because I look at them in a sense where I don't want it to be 'because you didn't make it to the top, you're over,'" he said. "I try to encourage them. Before they went on stage, I tried to encourage them that whatever happens, keep doing what you're doing, because it's good."

The contestants weren't the only ones who grew this season - so did Stockman. "It gave me a chance to get better at the judging thing, because it was [an] extended [season]. I had to figure out ways to express and articulate in a better way. It helped me become more of a student of music and television," he confided. "When I thought you couldn't do anything else, someone like Pentatonix comes up with something fresh and different. We're musicians, so we get inspired."

Speaking of inspiration, the Aires were not just gracious in defeat, but singing the praises of their competition. Said Daniel Freeman: "They're such an inspiration. We would be working ourselves into the ground to make sixteen guys sound anything like music every single week. Just to watch Pentatonix come up with something new and different and exciting that got us waiting on every single note with only five people - we were able to take some of their strategies and their rehearsal process and really take it to heart."

Echoed one of his teammates: "We're so happy for them. They're our friends. We respect what they do so much. And hey, second place ain't bad."

What did the winners have to say about their journey? They had plenty of thanks of their own to give out.

"The way I connect with music is totally different," said Pentatonix' boyish Scott Hoying. "I've grown so close to these people, it's unreal. Shawn [Stockman] really inspired me. He gave me confidence, that's for sure. Ben [Folds] had so many nice things to say. He would go into detail about our arrangements. We owe a lot to him. The critiques they gave us we took to heart. I think that's the reason we won."

Concurred his teammate Kirsty Maldonado, an admirer of Sara Bareilles: "We all look up to them a lot. It was incredible and crazy to be getting feedback from people you look up to."

What's the first thing they were going to do post-victory?

"Going to In 'N' Out Burger. We're hungry," said Kevin Olusola with a laugh. The idea didn't meet with much love from his teammates, so he hastily corrected, "I'm going to go, they don't have to go with me."

He's certainly earned a celebratory cheeseburger - and a whole lot more, including $200,000 and a new Sony recording contract.

Congratulations to Pentatonix on their victory, as The Sing-Off signs off for season three.
