Dagrin’s Posthumous album ‘Invincible Bulletproof’

5:44 AM |
It’s two years and two months since the C.E.O  Dagrin passed away, but we haven’t been able to get his music out of our lives – from the DJ still spinning his hits in the club, to the hustler by the corner whistling ‘Ghetto Dreams‘, it’s going to take a long time; maybe never…

With two albums, he earned his spot as an icon, but many fans have been wondering if the rapper, like slain rap icons Notorious B.I.G and 2Pac, left behind any unreleased material.

Hopes were raised after long-time Hip-hop producer Frenzy released Dagrin’s first posthumous material ‘If I die‘. And with Spinlet taking over the project, which will see a release of Dagrin’s third and first posthumous album, titled ‘Invincible Bulletproof‘, things are looking up.

It would however be unfair to call the latest single ‘Haters‘ a good Dagrin song. With just an intro, The producer gathers a poorly selected five-man team made up of newbies Dammy Krane, Tipsy and struggling upcomers – Pellyhustle, Bigstreet and Oba Dice to feature on what is meant to launch an album campaign.

What makes matters worse is that Dagrin – who is meant to own the song, only drops a one-liner intro – very embarrassing.

1:50 AM |
Late Latin Pose
Popular Nollywood actor, producer and comedian, Bolaji Amusan a.k.a ‘Mr Latin’ has been reported dead by unconfirmed reports in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The 47-year-old actor who had been receiving medical treatments over ailing heart disease at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta was reported dead at around 3:45 pm, Monday.

A hospital source who spoke on condition of anonymity said Mr Latin had been receiving medical treatments at the hospital for several days now before his death and has been taken away at around 5.30 pm.

Hospital officials at The Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta declined to comment on the issue saying only the families and relatives of the ace comedian are allowed and authorised to make such pronouncements.

The office of the Chief Medical Director, Dr Dapo Sotiloye was cordoned by hospital security guards who refused to allow even patients approach him.

All attempts to reach the families and relatives of the actor/comedian proved unproductive as calls to his Abeokuta residence and Lagos family home were not immediately returned or responded to. Calls to his wife, Ronke Amusan who is also a Nollywood scriptwriter were abortive as her telephone lines were switched off.

No official or recognised social media page can be attributed to him as of the time of report as a Twitter page which claimed to be owned by the actor saw him made hilarious tweets some few hours ago. A Facebook page attributed to him however saw activity for several months backs.

Bolaji Amusan a.k.a. Mr Latin was the Governor of the Ogun State chapter of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP).

Fake Doctor Injected Girl With Cement and Super Glue During Booty Inplant

12:44 PM |

Is there anything people won’t do to make their butts bigger?

A fake cosmetic surgeon set up shop in Miami Gardens, Florida, then proceeded to inject everything but the kitchen sink into his patient’s rear ends.

30-year old transgender woman, Oneal Ron Morris, is accused of injecting cement, mineral oils and fix-a-flat into the buttocks of at least one woman. He then sealed the incision with super glue.

The not-yet-identified victim became seriously ill, and had to be hospitalized with a staph infection (MRSA) and pneumonia.

Cement was one of the chemicals Morris injected into his victim

“This cocktail of chemicals went into her body and caused her terrific pain,” said Sgt. Bill Bamford.

Morris, who also injected himself with the chemicals has been arrested and charged with practicing medicine without a license and causing bodily harm.

The victim in the case paid $700 for the procedure and is lucky to be alive.

P SQUARE CLOCKS 27

4:22 AM |
The duo of Peter and Paul of the P.spuare fame clocked 27 years on friday Nov 18. Watchout for pictures on your darling Naija Whistle. What do you think of the replay of their celebration?

History
The story of P-Square began in St. Murumba secondary school, a small Catholic  school in Jos, Nigeria. Identical twins Peter and Paul joined their school music and drama club where they began singing, dancing, and miming songs by MC Hammer, Bobby Brown and Michael Jackson.

They later formed an acappella quartet called "MMMPP" (M Clef a.k.a Itemoh, Michael, Melvin, Peter and Paul). Drawing inspiration from their music idol Michael Jackson, they began break dancing, formed the group called "Smooth Criminals" in 1997. They droped M Clef from the group "MMMPP" which later was changed to "MMPP". Their artistic talent and precise dance routine soon made them household names in the city of Jos, where they performed at school functions and other occasions.

Later in 1999, Peter and Paul returned to music school to develop their skills on keyboard, drums, bass and rhythm guitar. Their work includes the soundtracks for a number of films like Tobi, Mama Sunday, Moment of Bitterness and Evas River.

Later in 1999, they applied to the University of Abuja to study Business Administration. The Smooth Criminals disbanded when its members left to various other universities. Subsequently Peter and Paul formed their own group, variously called "Double P", "P&P", and "Da Pees", until they eventually settled on "P Square". They are managed by Bayo Odusami aka Howie T, a seasoned concert promoter and the CEO of Adrot Nigeria Limited.

In 2001, "P-Square" won the "Grab Da Mic" competition, and hence Benson & Hedges sponsored their debut album, titled Last Nite, which was released under Timbuk2 music label. P-Square was also nominated as "Most Promising African Group" in the Kora Awards three months after the release of their debut album. They eventually won the 2003 Amen Award for "Best R&B Group".

In 2005, P Square released their second album, Get Squared under their own label, Square Records. This album was marketed nationwide by TJoe Enterprises, although they were still managed by Howie T of Adrot Nigeria Limited. The video for the second album held the #1 position on the MTV Base chart for four straight weeks.

They have an ever growing fan base across South Africa with a particular stronghold of die-hard fans in Cape Town.

The group has performed alongside the following international artists like Ginuwine, Sean Paul, Akon and Busola Keshiro. The members of P Square are now located in Lagos.

Late in 2007, they released their best selling album so far, Game Over. It has sold 8 million copies worldwide.

In 2009, P-Square released their fourth studio album, Danger. The album features collaborations with 2face Idibia, J Martins and Frenzy. The first single called "Danger" is a hip hop song with cutting synths and a frog bass baseline similar to an Eminem song. The video affirms this with the presence of clowns and staggered movements in front of the camera reminiscent of comical videos by Eminem. They are also known for the close resemblance which the twins have to American R&B Superstar, Usher Raymond.

On 4 April 2010, P-Square was named the Artist of the Year at the KORA All Africa Music Awards in Ouagadougou, Burkina-Faso while they were in London for a Concert at the Troxy, and they will receive a whopping sum of $1 Million Dollars as the Award Winners, in Ebebiyin City.

Controversies
The duo are reported to handle most of their production/beat making in house. The band has been faced with many controversies for their habit of sampling western songs and popular hits in their records. They have addressed the issue many times in interviews as well as in the lyrics of their songs.[2] Technically speaking, P Square does more in the line of reconstructing the drum patterns, chord progressions or lyrics of the sampled songs as against actually cutting parts of the song and directly sampling into their production. This accounts for the largely electronic feel of their sound.

Some of the songs which have been called up on this account include "Get Squared", "Game Over", "Danger" and others.

P-Square attracted headlines when they reportedly turned irate when they were notified in the middle of their at the Guinness Show performance by the organisers about some change in plans which would affect the length of their performance, and that of the next act, 2face.

As reported by a news site vanguardngr.com, the info apparently stirred up resentment as Peter immediately said "I don’t know why, anytime a foreign artiste comes to Nigeria, they (show organizers) wanna treat us like slaves in our country". Although initially they continued their performance but midway through, they threw their microphones to the ground and angrily stormed out of the stage saying, "We are leaving; they don’t want 2face to come on stage" They were said to have immediately left the premises of the show, but after intervention of the show organisers, they came on stage later with 2face for a performance, but later on were apologised to.

Saturday, November 19, 2011 Nollywood's cursed marriages: Kate Henshaw joins the list

4:11 AM |

If marriage is a diamond, then for majority of Nigerian actresses, finding that diamond is akin to looking for a needle in a haystack. Even among the lucky ones, many have discovered to their dismay that ‘‘diamonds are not forever”.
This poignant reality was recently reinforced by the shocking news that the marriage of Kate Henshaw-Nuttal, one of Nollywood’s top actresses, has hit the rocks. The Rivers of Tears actress, who turned 40 in July, called it quits with her 12-year old marriage to her British husband, Roderick James Nuttal. She told EE: “I have no comment on the issue. I have my daughter to think about.” The out-of-love couple is silently swotting in the background to effect a rancour-free and publicity-devoid divorce. For friends and fans of the star actress, and general observers of the Nigerian film industry, this latest development is sad and shocking.
What made the separation so repugnant is the fact that Kate Henshaw’s union used to be regarded as one of the few “working marriages” in the industry.

With the sad development, observers of the Nigerian film industry can’t shy away from the big question: Why is marriage such a cross for Nollywood stars? Earlier in August, another A-List actress, Mercy Johnson, got married under unwholesome circumstances that generated a deafening media noise.
Is marital failure in the movie industry such a big deal? After all, here and there, a slew of marital misadventures litter the corridors of Nollywood. However, when the facts and figures, the personas and personalities involved, are properly distilled, the disturbing result would make one jump to the conclusion that a ‘star marriage’ is jinxed. All it takes is a browse through the ‘Black Book’ of Nollywood marriages, to discover that not less than 25 top actresses had waded through the ‘marital swamp’ and came out divorced or separated.

Many reasons, one result
If every actress concerned were to narrate “My Failed Marriage Story,” the slants of individual experience will vary. Some unions were dissolved on the altar of infidelity. Eucharia Anunobi (Glamour Girls II) claimed she caught her husband and their housemaid on the couple’s matrimonial bed in a compromising position. The Face of a Liar star, Stella Damasus, in a reverse order was shown the red card by her 10-month-old second husband on an alleged sins of promiscuity, notably, a particular romp in London which was uncovered by a Lagos-based tabloid.
Other actresses were casualties of Runaway Husbands Syndrome (RHS). Representatives of this category include: Jennifer Eliogu who lost her five-year-old marriage to a Swiss lady, when her husband suddenly took a walk from their marriage. Stephnora Okere, whose ex husband, Lanre Falana wedded here in Nigeria and later abandoned for his London base without returning to their matrimonial home in Nigeria, again. Shan George, a veteran of three-crashed marriages, whose husbands No. 1 and No. 3 checked out of the union by ‘absconding’; the latter, a Nollywood producer, relocated to Germany. Oge Okoye and Chika Ike, are also top players in this category.
Other marriages were rendered asunder on account of domestic violence. Kiss and Tell actress, Monalisa Chinda is a renowned example of those inside the ‘domestic violence quadrant’. Beaten ‘blue and black’ by her hubby, she vacated her marital sanctuary in 2009 and has been living a more secured life of single parenthood.
Some actresses, who found themselves in the ‘offside position’ of the marital field, blamed the fiascos on “irreconcilable differences”; from  Fathia Balogun, (whose marriage to her second husband, fellow actor Saidi Balogun, hit the rocks in 2008) to Ayo Adesanya, (who reportedly packed out of her matrimonial home due to incompatibility and an unending battery and assault from her husband, Hassan Goriola) and Out of Bounds actress, Foluke Daramola (who jumped out of her crisis-plagued four-year-old marriage because of the trauma of domestic frictions).

The All Seasons Singles Club’
Still, the Nollywood marriage conundrum has yet another flipside: a seraglio of screen sirens stranded on the cusp between “in a relationship” and “inside a marriage” - not for lack of charms, nor for dearth of suitors. This bevy of beauties achieved fame and fortunes within our living memory. Some of them have spent a decade or more on the big screens. In a parallel world, as professionals in other fields other than acting – bankers, nurses or lawyers - they would all have been married. Every season, they remain spinsters, even though they ‘ride on chariots of blue-chip relationships’. The roll call include multiple award-winning Genevieve Nnaji, multi-talented Uche Jombo, and devil-may-care Uche Ogbodo. The trio of Rita Dominic, Funke Akindele and Benita Nzeribe also belong to the singles circle alongside Oby Edozieh. The ‘Spinster Squad’ also include famous beauties like: Lilian Bach, Bimbo Akintola, the one and only “Our Lady of Boobs”, Cossy Orjiakor. Queen of controversy, Empress Njamah, is also on the register.

The pass mark
On the balance sheet of Nollywood marriage, the credit side is lean. Marriages that are intact are few and still ‘green’ to be declared successful. Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, whose 15-year-old marriage has produced four children, is the best known example. Then, there is mother-of-three-sons Omoni Oboli. The star of the award-winning Anchor Baby has sustained her marriage for 11 years. Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha has clocked five years in her marital sojourn. Ini Edo-Ehiagwina is in her third year. Dakore Akande has just experienced 10 months of marriage. A further four or five names can be added to the list and that is about the size of it. The “working marriages” still have the hurdle of 25-year silver benchmark ahead. To become a vintage marriage, they have to beat the Olu Jacob-Joke Silva test.

Breaking the riddle jinx
Sultry star actress, StephNora Okere, a casualty of a failed marriage, in an exclusive interview with EE recently, avows: “Broken marriage is not a Nollywood thing; it’s a society thing. But it is an anomaly, because this part of the world is quick to pick up vices from the western world; it’s part of the vices Third World countries are picking from the Americas of this world.”
Ngozi Nwosu, another victim of a failed marriage, who played the character of Peace in the popular television comedy series, Fuji House of Commotion, once provided an insight based on her personal experience:  “Suddenly, I became a star and he (her husband) grew uncomfortable with it. This was the genesis of our quarrel. He wasn’t at home with the attention I was getting”.
Bukky Wright, the twice-married, twice-divorced sexy actress also sang the same tune. “Nigerian men lack confidence, especially to manage successful women”, she once asserted.
Another victim, revered thespian, Clarion Chukwura, star of the 1984 Mirror in the Sun had a poignant perspective of what she called “marriages that don’t work”. Marriage, she opined, is a fusion of two minds on the platform of joyful co-existence, and when it goes awry, she averred, “Either of the parties should walk away instead of living in misery.”

Despite the gloom-doom aura surrounding ‘star marriage’ in the film industry, actresses still hold it in high esteem.  Those who are yet to marry talk about “marriage when it is right” or “marriage with Mr. Right”. Marrying right seems to be a jinx in Nollywood.

Baba Suwe offered Bail, Lawyer promised to fight back

2:11 PM |
Actor and comedian, Babatunde Omidina (aka Baba Suwe), who was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of hard drugs, was today (November 1, 2011) granted bail at a high court in Lagos (Nigeria). The presiding judge, Yetunde Idowu, granted the actor bail, on the condition that no drugs are found in his system by Friday (Nov. 4).  Bail was set at N500,000, and a surety in a like sum. Barring any new developments, the NDLEA is compelled to release the actor on November 4, 2011, if they still have not found any drugs in his system by then. The actor’s lawyer, Bamidele Aturu, had filed a human rights enforcement case at the high court on behalf of the actor. Speaking on the ruling, the lawyer said that inasmuch as Nigerians support the fight against drugs, that support does not extend to the violation of fundamental human rights. He accused the NDLEA of arresting the actor, and then fishing for evidence. He described the ruling as a victory for democracy and constitutionalism.

Baba Suwe: We will fight the battle to logical conclusion – Aturu
Cast in the mould of late fiery lawyer Chief Gani Fawehinmi SAN, lately, Mr. Bamidele Aturu has been carving a niche for himself as not only a legal practitioner, but also a social crusader cum rights activist.

In this interview, he spoke on controversial fuel subsidy removal, on-going attempt to reform the judiciary, anti-corruption agencies and Baba Suwe whom the court has ordered the NDLEA to release tommorow if he fails to excreates the suspected hard drug that he alledgely ingested. Excerpts:

WHAT is your assessment of the state of the nation?

The ruling elite in Nigeria clearly lack the attributes that can lift the people of this country out of poverty and misery. everywhere you turn you are confronted with corruption, waste, inefficiency, planlessness, nepotism and gross incompetence of the worst variety.

Our people lack access to basic infrastructures and facilities that are taken for granted even in certified backward societies. No portable water, no electricity, no motorable or even passable roads, education has collapsed, workers are paid miserable wages, unemployment is out of control, there is general insecurity, there is rot in the judiciary, health services have since collapsed, there is total governance paralysis.

The Federal government has expressed its intention to remove fuel subsidy come January next year. How do you react to this?

It is simply unacceptable. It is evil, malicious, wicked, insensitive, unresponsive, irresponsible, unconscionable, intolerable and bad. I mean very very bad. The decision of the Federal Government to ‘de-subsidize’ the prices of petroleum products next year shows clearly that each time government is broke the only thing its officials can think of is how to inflict further pain on the people by increasing the prices of petroleum products.

There is nothing like subsidies on petroleum products. As far back as about 2005 a top government functionary had informed the whole world that subsidies had been completely removed. The decision shows that the government is insensitive and does not care about the material conditions of the people. The people must resist the planned increase of petroleum products (price). Our firm will participate in every programme by organized labour and civil society to prevent the actualization of the wicked decision. The decision is intolerable and unacceptable. It will be resisted.

President Goodluck Jonathan has promised to provide social safety net to cushion the effect of the subsidy removal on the masses. How do you react to this?

Why should government create problems or hardship in the first place and now seek to cushion the effect of the hardship, that is warped logic. It is like breeding mosquitoes in your house and then purchase the best anti malaria drugs. It is also like inflicting injury deliberately and offering the best treatment available. We don’t need the injury, we don’t need the treatment. Nigerians don’t need palliatives, we don’t need any cushioning of hardships. There is no sensible justification for the removal of the fraudulent subsidies period.

You said last week that war against corruption is not on course. What inform their position?

Only an insane fellow or an imbecile would not see that there is corruption in every facet of life in Nigeria. There is corruption at all levels in Nigeria. Wven government officials cannot deny this obvious fact.

Is that why you called for the sack of the heads of the Police, ICPC, EFCC and the Code of Conduct Bureau ?

Of course, yes

How then do you think the anti-graft war should be fought effectively?
First replace the leadership of the bodies. Amend our laws and place the onus on the accused in corruption cases to justify their wealth. Also there should be no interlocutory appeals in corruption cases. We should also amend the constitution to prescribe time limits for determining such cases

The Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN Justice Dahiru Musdapher, has set up a 28 -man panel to make  recommendations toward reforming Judiciary. What are your expectations from the panel?

The panel cannot achieve its objective in the short period given to it. So I really don’t expect much from it. The time is too short.

How do you react to the inclusion of immediate past CJN Justice Katsina- Alu  in the panel?

He has no place in that committee. The myth that the Nigerian judiciary is the last hope of the common man has exploded. The judiciary, we need to repeat for the umpteenth time, is but one of the superstructures of the Nigerian State. It cannot but reflect the ethos and mores of the ruling class.

To the extent that the dominant elite in Nigeria are corrupt, backward, visionless, wicked and selfish, it is futile to expect the judiciary to be different. Of course, this does not imply that we do not have some exceptions here and there, but the general characterization of the Nigerian judiciary today is that it is as corrupt and visionless as the political class.

The solution to the decay in the judiciary can only be found if we sanitise our polity. The 28-member Committee recently set up to sanitise the judiciary would ordinarily have been welcome, but for the inclusion of the immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria. His inclusion is insensitive and controversial, to say the very least, as it gives an impression that he is the victor in the dispute between him and the suspended President of the Court of Appeal. He should be removed from the Committee if Nigerians are expected to take its work seriously.

On Phantom fuel subsidies
The decision of the Federal Government to ‘de-subsidize’ the prices of petroleum products next year shows clearly that each time government is broke the only thing its officials can think of is how to inflict further pain on the people by increasing the prices of petroleum products. There is nothing like subsidies on petroleum products.

As far back as about 2005 a top government functionary had informed the whole world that subsidies had been completely removed. The decision shows that the government is insensitive and does not care about the material conditions of the people. The people must resist the planned increase of petroleum products. Our firm will participate in every programme by organized labour and civil society to prevent the actualization of the wicked decision. The decision is intolerable and unacceptable. It will be resisted.

As the lawyer to the detained comedian Mr. Babatunde Omidina a k a Baba Suwe over alleged hard drug ingestion , what is your reaction to NDLEA’’s reason for still holding on to him? You said the Federal High Court order which the NDLEA obtained to extend his detention was obtained through misrepresentation of fact: so what do you intend to do about this?

We have already filed the necessary application to discharge the order made by Justice Okeke. The NDLEA did not inform the court that the man had excreted eight times without any illegal substance in the excreted matter. they concealed the fact that the man had been in unlawful detention for over a week before filing the application. they concealed the fact that the man has been having his three meals daily. they concealed the fact that the man is diabetic.

Do you still intend to enforce Baba Suwe’s  fundamental right and claim aggravated and exemplary damages on his behalf?
Oh yes. We are already in court. The case is before Justice Idowu of Lagos High Court. we will fight the battle to a logical conclusion.

NDLEA has said it would apologies to him if he fails to excrete the alleged hard drug he ingested will such apology be accepted if nothing is found at the end of the day?

They would do more than apologies. Heads must roll in the organisation. They better start to look for other jobs. It is as simple as that.

Are you handling this matter pro bono?

My client has not yet told me he is indigent.

Sam Loco Efe is dead

10:31 AM |
Sam Loco Efe

Veteran Nollywood actor and comedian, Sam Loco Efe is dead. The 66 year-old actor died today on location, in his hotel room in Owerri, Imo State. So sad! May his soul rest in peace...amen.

More details coming soon...

For those that doesnt know or heard of Sam loco Efe:

He is easily one of Nigeria’s most popular entertainers. Chief Sam Loco Efe is a versatile actor, writer and singer. As a trained artiste, Loco Efe at the age of 66 continues to be a trainer and moulder of future leaders especially in showbiz where he has excelled both on stage and screen.

At the just concluded 5th African Film and Television Programmes Expo (BOBTV 2008), held at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, Sam Loco Efe was the star of the moment. As the receiver of the prestigious award for legendary professionalism as a screen and stage actor, Loco’s name topped the list of the Best of the Best Honours of the BOBTV. But he was not the only artiste who was recognized for excellence. Others include: Umar Farouk ( Kanny wood); Chika Onu (Nollywood); Antar Laniyan ( Film and TV production) and Tony Ikoku (Broadcasting and management).

Speaking from his “ hot seat” as the star of the festival, Sam Loco took time to reveal his choice of acting as a career, his training as an artiste, his challenges and preferences as well as his love life. The veteran actor also disclosed how he could have ended up as a robber if he hadn’t taken to acting.
Loco identified discipline as the hallmark of every actor. He attributed his success in his profession to dedication, discipline and adherence to professionalism.

“ I believe that training starts when one is born and ends when one is dead,” explained Loco, who observed that discipline goes with training in every profession. As a result, no actor can succeed without training and discipline.

His words:” Practice, they say, makes perfect. I sharpen my intellect on a daily basis and this is why there’s hardly any lines or words that I cannot commit to memory even within a short period.”
According to Loco, reading and simplicity have guided his career over the years, such that “ I sell my clothes to buy books…this is why I prefer simple dresses…I prefer to wear simple dresses and read many books.”

On what spurs him into action as an actor, Loco said,” many things put me on whenever I act. Some of these things are a product of the training I received and the environment from which I grew or find myself. But I hate pretenders…people have to be real in their conducts. Today, many people join the acting profession because they want to be famous and this is why they all get it wrong. There is a difference between being a famous actor and being a great actor.”

To Sam Loco, acting is a talent that has to be nurtured through training and this requires that a good actor should not only strive to speak good English, but should also ‘talk’ English the way the native speakers do. He argued that one of the avenues through which an actor wins his audience is by learning how to communicate effectively using English or whatever language that is required. He observed further “ if you are a robber, the chances are that you would be a better robber if you are properly trained.”
Recalling how he wrote, performed and presented his first play for a drama competition on October 1, 1960, Loco hinted that he became a dramatist “through accidental discharge.” He explained with nostalgia how as a secondary school pupil, he was the only competitor whose entry came last but ironically launched him into drama without prior training.

On his dual personality as a man and an actor, Loco said he talks naturally from his heart as a human being but that his personality usually changes the moment he grabs a drama script. But the veteran actor is unhappy that Nollywood today parades more of fashion than acting,”

There is a gulf of difference between fashion parade and acting. Today, there are more stars in Nigeria than the whole of Europe put together. This why our emerging actors lose control the moment they get the impression that they’ve become stars. Majority of our actors today lose control on maintenance of stardom, forgetting that stardom kills creativity,” observed Loco.

Asked about his attitude to wine and women, Loco Efe said: “Whatever gives you pleasure, please do it. I do not pretend on the issues of wine and women but I’ve always learnt to do everything based on my tenacity. I think one is free to do whatever gives him or her pleasure, provided one does not destroy self in the process.”

While explaining the challenges of the stage and screen, the veteran actor said the entire structural design of the artiste is put into use on stage but that the screen requires facial expressions and sometimes, elaborate make-up to achieve desired effects. His deep knowledge of both the stage and screen has earned him success.

On his marriage and love life, Loco was quick to say that he once got married to a woman who later died in the United States. But that he also has children by other women after the death of his first wife. the expressed support for polygamy, saying “ I endorse polygamy. It’s a soft landing cushion to avoid promiscuity and adultery.

Unfortunately, we now avoid polygamy because of Christianity.”
Loco’s main regret so far is the failure to have replaced self by younger actors. He hinted that he isn’t looking for actors who would exactly imitate him, but those who can attain his level of professionalism and discipline as against sacrificing creativity on the altar of commerce and stardom.

He explained, “ very soon I will do partial withdrawal from acting. Since attaining the age of 60, I’ve tried to get myself replaced but it’s been difficult. I will like to be remembered for how many lives I have impacted on positively and how many people I’ve trained …I would have been an armed robber if I hadn’t taken to acting…despite the fact that every human being is an actor.”

A graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Ibadan, Loco came into limelight when he was voted best actor for his role in Langbodo, Nigeria’s only drama entry for FESTAC ‘77 directed by Dapo Adelugba. Also in 1996, Loco won three awards in the THEMA edition. Some of his popular works include: Picadilly Circus, Sergeant Okoro and Ukwa. He is currently national chairman caretaker committee of the Actors Guild of Nigeria as well as chairman, board of veterans of the same guild.
