Tobey Maguire Agrees To Pay $80,000 To Settle Poker Game Lawsuit

8:01 AM |
Tobey Maguire has settled a lawsuit relating to his high-stakes poker winnings, according to multiple reports.

A bankruptcy trustee named the star in a lawsuit in March, alleging he won over $300,000 from disgraced investor Bradley Ruderman, who is serving a 10-year federal prison sentence for tax and wire fraud.

The plaintiff claimed Maguire's windfall at a series of unlicensed poker games in 2007 and 2008 came from funds stolen from investors who had been lured into an illegal Ponzi scheme by Ruderman.

The actor fired back with a countersuit, arguing that he should not have to hand back any winnings because he lost just as much money to Ruderman as he won from the convicted hedge fund manager.

The case was expected to go to trial at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles at the end of January, but now it looks as if Maguire is keen to settle after agreeing to pay $80,000 to the estate of Ruderman, according to CNN.

A judge has called a hearing for December 21, when he will decide whether or not to approve the settlement.

Actor Gabe Kaplan, who was also among the celebrities sued for the Ruderman cash, reached a similar settlement with the bankruptcy trustees in August and agreed to repay $27,000.

Jason Taylor Investment Broker Ran Off With $275,000 of My Money!

8:07 AM |

Jason Taylor has made a living out of chasing down quarterbacks -- now the NFL star is trying to chase down the man he says bilked him out of more than a quarter of a million dollars!

According to a lawsuit filed back in August, Taylor claims he gave $500,000 to a man named Eric Kim, who told Taylor he was an experienced securities investor. Taylor alleges Kim promised to invest the money on Taylor's behalf, and would do so without charging any fees ... except for 10% of whatever profits he made.

But alas ... Taylor says from August 2009 until March 2011, Kim "misappropriated" $275,269.10 of the money Taylor gave him. According to Taylor, Kim wrote 37 checks from the account he set up with Taylor's money ... 32 of which were either made out to Kim himself or to his good friend "cash."

Taylor is suing for fraud, among other things, and is looking for his money back, plus costs.

Calls to Kim's lawyers were not returned.

Mike Whalen of Morale Entertainment Foundation says ESPN also will televise a halftime show and postgame concert.

A basketball court with seating for approximately 7,000 fans will be built on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier for the rematch of the 2009 NCAA championship game, won by North Carolina. Organizers won't know until much closer to the Nov. 11 game which aircraft carrier will serve as host. Whalen has said it probably will be the USS Ronald Reagan or the USS Carl Vinson.

Sir Alex Ferguson - preparing for 10th FA Cup semi-final.
Sir Alex Ferguson hopes Manchester United's vast experience of handling FA Cup semi-final nerves can prove crucial in Saturday's derby clash with City at Wembley.

The Blues have reached this stage of the competition for the first time since 1981, when they edged out Ipswich before falling to Ricky Villa's memorable slalom goal for Tottenham in the final replay.

In contrast, United will be playing in their 10th semi of the Ferguson era, eight of which have been won, the only defeat coming to Everton on penalties two years ago.

Whilst Ferguson accepts playing such matches at Wembley rather than a club venue such as his personal favourite, Villa Park, has changed the nature of them, he still believes there is a uniqueness the respective sides have to combat before they can perform at their best.

"It can drain the players," he said.

"There is an impact in terms of the emotional build-up to the game. The fact it is at Wembley makes it more of an occasion, simply because of the name.

"Obviously it is a different stadium now. Those Twin Towers were a landmark and I wouldn't think the pitch is as tiring as the old Wembley because they have changed it so many times.

"It is a derby game in London, which is unusual but we are ready for it."

United are also well prepared in the sense that nearly all their major players are fit again.

Ferguson estimates combative midfielder Darren Fletcher is still a fortnight away from making a full recovery from the debilitating virus that has ruled him out since the beginning of March and caused him to lose so much weight.

But, apart from the Scotland skipper, and Owen Hargreaves, whose absence has been taken for granted for so long and who has played his final game for United unless tentative talks about his future result in a new contract, that would almost certainly be on a pay-per-play basis, the Red Devils are at full strength.

And that is exactly what Ferguson needs at this time of the season, with his side going full pelt for the treble on the back of seven straight wins, their best sequence of the entire campaign.

"We have got the momentum at the moment," said Ferguson.

"We are winning games, which is important at this time of the season.

"The consistency of the team has been good and we are playing well.

"Our players have a great determination. I am really pleased with that. It has given us a good chance."

All Ferguson has to do now is select the correct team. His task is made slightly easier by the fact Wayne Rooney is suspended.

Twenty-two goal Dimitar Berbatov is virtually certain to return, with Antonio Valencia set to join him.

Elsewhere, it is slightly more problematic, with Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick and Park Ji-sung, who expended so much energy in Tuesday's win over Chelsea, all vulnerable, no matter how desperately they want to be involved.

Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun desperate to win against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League

Chelsea midfielder, Yossi Benayoun believes that if his team fails to beat Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League then their season is over.

Chelsea will travel to Old Trafford for the second-leg of the quarter-final on Tuesday, 12th April, 2011. The Blues lost 1-0 in the first-leg at Stamford Bridge after Wayne Rooney scored in the 24th minute for United.

Chelsea are behind leaders United in the Premier League by 11-points and have been knocked out of Carling Cup and the FA Cup as well. Carlo Ancelotti’s side’s only hope of winning silverware in this ingoing 2010-11 season depends on their Champions League game on Tuesday.

Benayoun, who has missed a major part of the season due to a calf injury, has admitted that this is a make or break game for his team in this season.

The Israeli said, “Everyone knows we are playing to save our season. Everyone knows it's the most important game of the season. We have to save our season and try to qualify for the semi-finals. It's most likely from here we will finish in the top three or four in the Premier League and be in the Champions League again next season.”

“That's almost done. So the only thing left is to try to win a trophy - and the only trophy we can win is the Champions League. That's why we have to do our best and give everything. Because if we win this game it will change everything,” added Benayoun.

The former Liverpool midfielder added that if his team manage to beat United on Tuesday, it will pave the way to glory for them. He reckons that if they manage to qualify for the semi-finals, then there is a huge chance that they can go on to win the tournament.

The 30-year-old added that his team faces an uphill battle against United in the second-leg but they have proved in the past that they can beat them at Old Trafford.

Constant injury problems have restricted the midfielder to only 5 appearances this season.

Black On Black Racism: England FA Charges Charlton Cole Over Racist Tweet

4:19 AM |
This is very sick, a BLACK "England" footballer has been changed by the English FA for a racists comment on Ghanaians he posted on tweeter.

The BBC Sports website reports how the West Ham striker, Carlton Cole, has been charged by the English Football Association (FA) for racist comments he made against Ghanaians on Twitter, during their friendly with England on 29th March.

The West Ham striker was basically insinuating that the large number of Ghanaians that had gathered at Wembley to support the Black Stars were refugees, by tweeting this foolishness:

“Immigration has surrounded the Wembley premises! I knew it was a trap! Hahahahaha! The only way to get out safely is to wear an England jersey and paint your face w/ the ST. George flag.” (sic)

This is very pathetic, I guess someone forgot to tell all the so-called "Black British" that they were products of slavery in the 60s and they should get over their ignorance???
